Owner or tenant: the same obligation, different needs
An owner insures the building and its contents against damage it might suffer. A tenant must at least cover their tenant's liability, that is, damage they might cause to the property they occupy, and can also insure their own furniture and belongings.
When you borrow to buy, the lender requires the building to be insured against fire before releasing the funds. This requirement appears in the loan offer, it is not simply a recommendation.
What a good policy really checks
Two policies showing the same premium can cover the same claim very differently: the insured value of the building, the excess, exclusions on certain types of water damage, the reimbursement cap for contents. We compare these elements, not just the headline price.

Merci encore!

Your questions
Do I have to insure my home?
For an owner there is no general legal obligation, but a mortgage lender requires fire insurance before releasing the funds. A tenant must at least cover their tenant liability, which the lease often requires.
What does the policy cover in case of water damage?
Depending on the contract, damage from a leak, a burst pipe or seepage, at your place or at a neighbour’s. Exclusions and the excess vary from one insurer to another, which is what we compare.
Do I need to insure the contents as well as the building?
They are two separate covers. The building is insured by the owner, the contents (furniture, appliances, personal belongings) by the occupant, owner or tenant. We check the contents reimbursement limit.
Is theft always covered?
No, it is an optional cover depending on the contract. Describe your home and what you want to protect, and we compare the terms of our partner insurers.
